How long it takes to generate a dvd files?
Depending on your computer configurations, a 3.00 GHz Pentium 4 will take approximately 3 hours to generate full DVD-5 (4.7 GB).

Why it takes so long to generate a dvd?
The DVD generation is a lengthly process that implies slideshow generation, decoding and encoding videos and audios, muxing, and generating menus. ReelProject is fine-tuned using MMX instructions to make it faster. However the data to be processed is really huge, 200 GB raw data for video itself for a full DVD-5 (2 hours show) on PAL format.

How to specify PAL or NTSC? Fullscreen or Widescreen?
Choose a template that uses the specifications you want. Your final DVD will follow the template video format and aspect ratio. The reason behind this is that each video format and aspect ratio combination has its own resolution. To make it simple, a template can have only one format and aspect ratio.

Does it support DVD-9?
No. Currently ReelProject only supports DVD-5 (4.7 GB).

Why it only supports JPG? Why it only supports MP3?
For simplicity. JPG and MP3 are supported by most operating systems and most hardwares.

What video formats does it support?
Reel Project uses libavcodec and libavformat from ffmpeg.org for its codec engine. It supports a lot of video format and container. To test whether a file is supported, try to drag and drop it from Windows Explorer. If a thumbnail appears, then it is supported. However, we only officially support AVI and MPEG files.

Do I need to pay DVD royalty?
DVD and MPEG technology are owned patents. You don't need to pay anything if you create and burn a DVD for your personal purposes. There's a small royalty if you want to sell your DVD to public. Please consult MPEG LA for more information.

How to burn a dvd?
Reel Project doesn't include a dvd burner functionality. It is only a special tool to generate DVD file system to harddisk. Other reason why we decided to not include a burner in our software, is that almost every DVD writer comes with a bundled burner software such as Nero or WinOnCD. Burning Reel Project generated files to dvd media is pretty easy and straight forward.
